What FightPlane is
FightPlane is a marketplace for tabletop RPG battlemaps. Creators list maps individually, priced however they choose, and buyers search and filter their way to a specific map rather than a subscription feed. Eventually, a companion module will let a purchased map be imported straight into Foundry VTT with its walls and lighting already set up — the site is built with that in mind from the start.
Why it exists
Most battlemap creators sell through Patreon, and Patreon is genuinely good at what it's built for: a recurring relationship with your biggest supporters, who get everything in a tier each month. But it's a poor fit for two other people — the GM who needs one map and doesn't want a subscription or a scavenger hunt through a Discord, and the creator's own catalogue, where the best individual pieces stay locked inside whichever month's tier they shipped in.
FightPlane exists to be the retail layer next to your wholesale one — not a replacement for Patreon, a second door into the same catalogue for the buyer who wants exactly one thing.
How buying works
Buyers search for maps using keywords and filters based on real map attributes like terrain, biome, lighting, and more. Buyers select and purchase the specific maps or map-packs they want. The maps are made available for download in the customer's account. Downloads are unlimited, but are also un-shareable single-use links generated by FightPlane after ownership is verified.
Because a download can't be "returned" the way a physical good can, FightPlane doesn't offer refunds on completed purchases. Buyer confidence instead comes from reviews — genuine, tied to an actual purchase — which means the incentive for every creator is the same one that makes any market work: sell maps worth keeping.
How selling works
During FightPlane's early-launch phase vendor applications are reviewed and approved individually, and manually. Once approved, listing a map is straightforward: upload the image and any source files, set a price, tag it accurately, publish. There's no fee to create a listing itself and no per-download fee — the platform only takes a cut when a map actually sells.
Listing credits are the one thing that isn't obvious from experience elsewhere, so it's worth explaining plainly. Approved vendors may be provided listing credits to begin listing maps. Credits are slots, filled when a map is published for sale, and reopened when a map is delisted or removed. Fifty credits allows a vendor to list fifty maps at a time. Selling does not consume credits. Additional credits can be purchased from the Selling menu.
Vendors can also use credits to list maps privately. Private listings are available for sale, and can be shared using links, but do not appear in search or filters. Multiple maps can be bundled into packs and listed for sale — pack listings also consume a credit slot. Purchase of a pack gives a customer access to every map in it at the time of purchase. Adding maps to a pack afterward doesn't grant existing buyers access to the new maps, and removing maps from a pack doesn't revoke access from anyone who already owns them.
Money, plainly
FightPlane uses Stripe to process payments for customer purchases and vendor payouts. Stripe fees as well as platform fees for each transaction are itemized in the vendor dashboard. Vendor earnings accumulate in the vendor dashboard and are automatically distributed every 14 days (or at request, once earnings cross a threshold of $20 or more). Tax, refunds, and charge disputes are all handled by FightPlane.
- 10% + $0.10 — FightPlane's commission, per order
- Every 14 days — payout schedule
Ownership
Once a buyer purchases a map they are provided a reasonable but not unlimited license to use the map and its associated assets. This license is generally irrevocable except in cases of fraud, copyright claim, or other extremely limited circumstances at the discretion of FightPlane admin. A creator may unpublish a product, reprice it, or even leave the platform, and their customers retain their purchased assets.
Where things stand
FightPlane is in final testing before opening more broadly. This first round of outreach is going to a small group of creators we already admire, ahead of any public launch — an early look, and early listing credits, before anyone else sees it.
